It only matters how you feel about the color of course, but I think it’s lovely on you 😊 whenever you’re ready, I can vouch that going gray myself at age 55 was the best decision I ever made, wish I’d done it 10 years sooner. I’ve never received so many compliments on my hair from strangers and friends alike. Joyeux Noël et bonne année

Thank you Brook! I tried to go gray during the pandemic but missed my red. One day perhaps 😊 Joyeux fêtes!

oh my god Sacha. I had a terrible experience in Paris. Was god-awful. Wrote a whole Substack about it as well. Maybe we should start a support group! xx

Mine actually turned out ok but it took about a week for the henna not to look scary!

I too am quite nervous about taking the plunge and going to a French hairstylist for the first time. 😬 I only live in France part time for now, so I can keep putting it off for a while, and in the meantime I love hearing about other ladies' experiences with it. I think your new haircolor looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing this story. 😊

Hi Beth--thank you very much! The experience, while nerve-wracking--turned out to be wonderful. I am actually looking forward to going back to the salon in Dijon this summer :)

It is one of the hardest processes! I can sympathize with you. When we first moved to Mexico (a country of brunettes/dark hair) I knew it would be weird when I finally needed to add color or cover gray. It was. We live 25 miles from Cancun and I figured I'd go a hair salon in one of the hotels in the Hotel Zone, one of the big chain hotels, like s Hilton or Marriott. Oh man. I'm a medium brunette and wanted gray covered and a few streaks. It was a horror show from the git. After 3 hours (and they totally bleached my hair to THEN add color back in, I said I can't go home like this. Another 3 hours, not perfect but-- better. My poor hair. Eventually found a French woman in Cancun who did hair color, thank the gods.

SO glad you did it…and it didn't end up a horror story! I once walked out of a salon looking like a true bozo the clown! LOL

My hair is about 40% gray. I used to have highlights and lowlights applied to my mousy light brown hair. But as the gray started coming in, the highlights would turn an ugly brassy orange color. It did not go well with my cooler toned complexion. So I gave up coloring it and let it grow out natural about seven years ago. Once in a while I am tempted ...... but keep my mouth shut about experimenting with color. I will stay natural ... and surprisingly with the gray streaks, it actually brightens up the mousy color and I kinda like it!
