LOVE this, Sacha! Based on the stories you've shared, I clearly need to explore both Dijon and Bordeaux... perhaps ask Elise (or the language program that you'll be attending) if they may need native English speakers to teach English to adults???? (guess who!) ;-)
Makes me wish we'd chosen to live in Dijon vs. Paris for the year! Great read. Thinking of taking a lil' trip down, even if for just un pot de moutarde, not to be confused with being a "motarde." ;)
This is so serendipitous it is crazy! Just this morning, something came across my news feed about how Dijon was the BEST "smaller big French city" -- it had made the top of some list, and since I'm into that sort of thing, I was targeted. I thought of bookmarking it and sending it to you, as I remember your interest in Dijon, but didn't and now I can't find it. Not that it really matters -- you get the gist. Bordeaux or Dijon? Time will tell.
I have found that the French are incredibly generous with their time and efforts. I’ve also discovered that it seems particularly American to harbor suspicion of motives - I’ve seen it in myself and worked hard at changing it so that I now (mostly - still working on it) assume good intentions and genuine generosity instead of being on my guard.

Merci, mon amie! I hope you can come visit us while we are in France this time around. It would be so fun to have a French reunion.

Dijon is so close to Paris, though. You should come visit us while we are there in June!

Oh wow, what a coincidence! I’ll see if I can track down the article.
It was by some publication with “immobilier” in the title, and really wasn't that in-depth.
Such a heart warming experience!
Thanks Catherine Ann. It really was special!

I've had the same experience! The generosity and kindness have been really life-affirming.
