Mon dieu! You're living one of my dreams! I have the pleasure of watching a few other friends live it too. Duolingo is dusting off my middle-high school proficiency, as is watching Dix Pour Cent and The Parisian Agency. Get me outta here? xx
I'm sort of surviving by limiting news intake to certain times of the day, and trying to focus on the rest of life at other times. I also joined Democrats Abroad, which I had never done. I'm going to try to go to an event in Toulouse, even though it's far away, to be with some like-minded folks. Their group seems pretty feisty there.
Sorry for the late response. I just returned from some traveling—such a joy to be able to move around so easily here. We moved from the mountains of North Carolina, hence why we chose to be in or close to the mountains. I am a retired chef and sommelier, I fell in love with France a long time ago. I am living my dream!
Thanks Karen! I’ve looked at this site pretty extensively but it’s overwhelming. I’m hoping to get some personal recommendations for B&Bs and rentals to fill out our last 3 weeks in France. Let me know if you have any suggestions! 😊
Bon Chance with the Visa process! My husband and I are now in France, we voted and left! We have been here almost 5 months, and so far, it's been great!! Funny, you show a house in Annecy, where we live now! It is absolutely stunning here!! We try to avoid news as much as possible, but it's hard, and everyone here loves to discuss it!!
Lucky you! We went to Annecy in 2019, and it was gorgeous but also very hot (during a heatwave). We both want to go back. I'd like to hear more about your journey--where in the States did you move from?
We obviously need to find tiny joy together while singing Yacht Rock songs 😂! Thanks for sharing your musings, your vision, your art. Hope to meet up in France (or Italy) one day very soon. ❤️
We have stayed in gites throughout France - Normandy to the Riviera and Burgundy, the Dordogne, the Atlantic, Loire and Alpes. Sometimes we meet the host on arrival, but we have never been invited to have a drink or meal - unlike Italy, where it happened often in agriturismos. Instead, we were on our own for all meals. However, we have stayed in chambres d’hotes (B and Bs), where in a few, we were served wonderful dinners. But again, the host served, and did not join us, except at aperitif time.
Woo hoo! Congrats on your visa progress. It’s a light in the midst of what otherwise can feel like a cluster 😵💫. I loved your Paris and expat lists - I bookmarked a few fun things as we are still settling into this beautiful city.

Hi Sacha, here’s a good site if you haven’t seen it yet. You can filter for a lot of things—

Such fun memories of that day with you two! xx 🩷

Not coming to Bordeaux? Say it ain't so!
We still may visit—will you be around in August? We’re worried about the heat which is why we’re looking at the coast.
August can indeed be hard (heat and few to no places with AC). Not sure yet if we will be here or not.

1000% my friend!

Hi Cynthia—any favorites you might be willing to share? I’m overwhelmed with all the choices! Merci!

Thanks Cheyanne! Glad you liked the lists too 😊
