Bonjour friends!

Hi, I’m Sacha—a writer, GenX work-in-progress, and Francophile. I started A Good Vintage in 2023 to document the sometimes-charming, sometimes-chaotic adventure my husband Jason and I embarked on as we try to turn our “someday we’ll live in France” fantasy into a real-life baguette-filled reality.

Since then, this space has evolved into a blend of personal essays, curious cultural deep-dives, interviews, travel tales, and the occasional musing on midlife, wellness, and managing anxiety without running off to a lavender field (though tempting).

So if you’re a fellow Francophile, an aspiring expat, a midlife human craving more meaning (or just better cheese), I’m so glad you’re here in my cozy little corner of Substack.

Housekeeping

I typically publish twice a month, although when I’m traveling it might be more often.

Paid subscribers get:

  • Access to French Faves, a frequently updated collection of travel and expat resources, shops, restaurants, and more that I’ve compiled over the past decade.

  • A free 30-minute “pick my brain” session about France via phone or Zoom. I can help you with itinerary planning (especially for Paris, Bordeaux, and Dijon), advice on longer term stays, and insights into the visa process from personal experience.

  • Access to the full archive.

This is a GiveBackStack, which means that part of the proceeds are donated to two of my favorite animal welfare organizations: Woodstock Farm Sanctuary and the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. I’ll update all subscribers about how much has been donated 2-3x a year.

More about me

I’m a writer, certified health coach, and entrepreneur. My articles have appeared in the Washington Post, AARP, Fodor’s, Slate, New York Magazine, Food Network Magazine, Cosmopolitan, USA Today, and many other magazines, websites, and newspapers.

I’ve been building community since the early 2000s, when I founded an online art and culture magazine and community in Washington, D.C. Since then, I’ve organized women’s wellness gatherings, media roundtables, entrepreneurial groups, creative salons, fundraisers, and more. The common denominator is that I love bringing people together.
